HEAVY DOWNPOUR OF RAIN RENDERS BENIN RESIDENTS HOMELESS

Many residents of Benin have been rendered homeless following several hours of heavy down pour on Saturday. Newsmen who went round to monitor the situation in the Edo capital, reports that several houses were submerged by the flood and others destroyed. Newsmen report also that while only a few part of the city was spared by the flood, the areas worst hit included most parts of the GRA, 1st East Circular, Akenwan road, Sakponba road, Erediauwa, off Sapele road, Okhoro as well as Ugbowo areas of the city. NAN further reports that aside the destruction and submerging of houses, several cars were also destroyed by the flood. Residents who are still busy scooping water from their homes, have continued to lament over the destruction of their properties by the flood. POLICE ARRESTS TEENAGE BOYS FOR GANG-RAPING A TEENAGE GIRL

The Police Command in Ebonyi said on Saturday that it had arrested two teenage boys aged 15 and 14 years for allegedly gang-raping a 15-year-old girl. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Loveth Odah, told newsmen in Abakaliki that the suspects had confessed to the crime. Odah said that the incident happened at Nkelegu Ishieke community in Ebonyi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. She said that the police division at Ishieke arrested the suspects who allegedly defiled the victim in her father’s house as he was away for his daily business. The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects, though minors, would be remanded at the juvenile welfare home, if found guilty by the court. Source:@todayng

NHRC CALLS FOR ACCELERATED HEARING OF RAPE AND SGBV CASES IN COURT

Mr Chia Nor, Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Nassarawa state, has called for accelerated hearing and prosecution for Rape, Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), cases in court. Nor made the call in an interview with newsmen in Lafia on Saturday. According to him, acceleration of such cases will mean faster conclusion and convictions of those alleged to have committed these offences. COVID 19 UPDATE: Death Cases Rises in Delta State

Today, the Delta State Government announced that it has recorded its sixth #COVID19 death at the Central Hospital, Warri. The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mordi Ononye disclosed this in a statement. Dr. Ononye disclosed that the 78 year-old male patient was referred from a private hospital in Warri to the #COVID19 Treatment Center, Central Hospital Warri by 2am today and was brought in unconscious. Dr. Ononye further disclosed that as strategic partners of the State Government in the containment of the spread of #COVID19 , private healthcare providers are strongly enjoined to have a high index of suspicion with all patients. All suspected cases should be promptly referred to the government treatment or holding facilities for further evaluation in order not to waste time in determining the #COVID19 status of such patients,” Dr. Ononye said. source:@DSGovernment
